Course Description

The Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED

This course is designed to prepare students to provide first aid, CPR, and automated external defibrillator (AED) use in a safe, timely, and effective manner. Heartsaver courses are designed to be flexible and customizable with optional modules. They are intended for anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for a job, regulatory (e.g., OSHA), or other requirements. These courses can also be taken by anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting.

We offer the Heartsaver First Aid/CPR/AED course, which includes the fundamental concepts of providing high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), using an automated external defibrillator (AED), and rendering basic first aid as needed for selected medical emergencies, injuries, and environmental emergencies.  The course is designed for participants who are not healthcare providers and who would like to gain the basic skills needed that might save a life or prevent further injury.

This course is open to participants and does not require any prior medical knowledge or healthcare background.  Our course covers the treatment of children and infants as well, making this the ideal course for virtually anyone who may deal with others in an emergency situation at home, work, or while traveling.  The course also meets or exceeds the requirements of many insurance companies that require basic training in CPR / First Aid in the workplace.

Note that this course, while comprehensive, is not necessarily appropriate for everyone, as it is primarily intended for a non-healthcare audience (we recommend you check with your school or employer to make sure they will accept this course for proof of CPR training).

After successfully, completing the Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Course, students should be able to:

  • list the priorities, roles, and responsibilities of the first-aid rescuer
  • describe the key steps in first aid
  • describe the assessment of and first aid actions for the following life-threatening conditions: heart attack, difficulty breathing, choking, severe bleeding, shock, and stroke
  • use an epinephrine pen
  • control bleeding
  • recognize elements of common injuries and illnesses
  • recognize the legal questions that apply to first aid rescuers.

After course completion requirements are met, an eCard valid for two years will be emailed to the participant.
