Course Description

Heartsaver CPR AED teaches participants how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) safely and effectively.

Learner Outcomes

The Heartsaver First Aid course trains participants to respond to and manage common illnesses and injuries in the first few minutes until professional medical help arrives. Upon completing the course, students will be able to: 1) Basic Principles: List the roles, responsibilities, and priorities of a first aid rescuer, and use universal precautions and personal protective equipment (PPE) safely. 2) Finding the Problem: Demonstrate how to assess an injured or ill person, phone 911, and check for vital signs. 3) Life-Threatening Emergencies: Describe the assessment and response actions for heart attacks, breathing difficulties, strokes, severe allergic reactions (including using an epinephrine pen), and shock. 4) Injury Care: Demonstrate how to stop severe bleeding with direct pressure, apply bandages, and handle minor wounds, broken bones, sprains, and burns. 5) Medical & Environmental Crises: Recognize signs of seizures, poisoning, diabetic emergencies, and temperature-related issues like heat stroke or hypothermia.
